BNP Paribas is considering restructuring its consumer credit subsidiary in response to changes in usage and the economic environment, the bank announced on Friday, confirming a Bloomberg report.

"In a changing consumer credit sector, both in terms of usage and as a result of the economic context, BNP Paribas Personal Finance has presented its strategic thinking to employee representatives with regard to refocusing its activities and adapting its operating model," the bank said in a statement to Reuters.

According to Bloomberg, BNP Paribas may decide to sell some of its subsidiary's activities or start reducing some of its loan portfolios.

A 100% subsidiary of BNP Paribas, BNP Paribas Personal Finance is present in some 30 countries and employs nearly 20,000 people.
