BASF announces that the Ultramid Expand polyamide particle foam shock absorber, developed jointly with Mercedes-Benz as part of the Mercedes-Benz Vision Eqxx technology program, has won 2nd place in the 'Enabler Technology' category at the SPE Automotive Awards 2024, which annually recognize outstanding developments in the field of plastic parts for automotive engineering.

The purpose of a shock absorber is to absorb and distribute the forces generated during a collision and transfer them to the vehicle body. Here, Ultramid®Expand offers several advantages over metal structures, reducing weight and improving energy absorption in the event of impact.

The production process is also more cost-effective than that of metal structures.
