University College London Hospitals (UCLH) NHS Foundation Trust has selected Atos to serve as its digital transformation partner in order to overhaul patient care services under a ten year outsourcing contract. The price of the contract is valued at £130 million, which will cover all costs of the “core” services provided by Atos to the trust. These functions will include managing end-user technology, service desk and application management functions, as well as information security, SIAM and private cloud data services. Additional costs may then be occurred on a project by project basis for digital transformation functions such as architecture and data services, according to the company. The trust’s contract with Atos is anticipated to commence shortly, with an exact start date yet to be confirmed. However, the company expects to take full control of services under the contract by July 2017 following a six-month transition period. The contract can also be extended for two additional twelve month periods. Atos has also maintained that the agreement is in line with work it has undertaken with NHS Scotland around meeting the aims of the NHS 2020 Vision Framework, which looks at wider integration of care services. The contract with UCLH represents an attempt by the company to try and expand its footprint in healthcare technology in England at a time when some significant technology contracts for NHS trusts are expected to go to market.
