Apple: EU approves mobile payment commitments
The Commission had found that Apple held a dominant position on the iOS in-store mobile wallet market, by controlling access to NFC hardware and software, thus limiting access to third-party developers.
Apple has therefore agreed to allow third-party mobile wallet providers to use Host Card Emulation (HCE) technology for contactless payments free of charge, independently of Apple Pay.
The firm has also promised a transparent, non-discriminatory process for access to NFC, as well as features facilitating the use of third-party applications by default for payments.
