SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Jan 17, 2013) - California American Water is supporting other regional water purveyors by reminding customers that water efficiency measures are in effect and customers should reduce water use in the face of dry conditions. 2013 was the driest year on record in more than a century of record keeping and many area water districts are triggering water shortage contingency plans as a result of limited surface water supplies. As conditions develop in the coming weeks updates to conservation plans will be made as needed.
California American Water relies primarily on groundwater to serve its 60,000 customers in nine systems spread among Sacramento and Placer counties. Additionally, surface water purchased from neighboring agencies is used to supplement groundwater supplies. Staff is carefully monitoring each system to determine any vulnerabilities as a result of the ongoing drought.
"California American Water customers should be aware of the current water supply conditions and make an extra effort to use water efficiently," said Northern California Director of Operations S. Audie Foster. "We are working with other area water providers to ensure that we are protecting California's water supplies and our local environment during this drought period."
California American Water offers outstanding conservation programs and services including the following:

Water Smart Home Survey for home and business. California American Water staff or contractors will visit your home or business to help identify ways to save water at no charge.

Rebates for toilets, washing machines, irrigation timers, turf removal and more.
