AMCON Distributing Company reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended December 31, 2016. For the quarter, the company reported sales of $310,104,229 compared to $322,008,249 for the same period a year ago. Operating income was $2,091,234 compared to $2,549,821 for the same period a year ago. Income from operations before income tax expense was $1,879,464 compared to $2,364,622 a year ago. Net income was $1,046,464 compared to $1,355,622 a year ago. Net income available to common shareholders was $1,046,464 compared to $1,306,445 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share available to common shareholders were $1.52 compared to $1.85 a year ago. Net cash flows from operating activities were $2,166,012 compared to $12,716,831 a year ago. Purchase of property and equipment was $400,778 compared to $361,565 a year ago.
AMCON Distributing Company is a convenience and foodservice distributor of consumer products, including beverages, candy, tobacco, groceries, foodservice, frozen and refrigerated foods, automotive supplies and health and beauty care products. The Companyâs Wholesale Distribution segment distributes consumer products and provides a range of programs and services to its customers. The segment serves retail outlets, including convenience stores, grocery stores, liquor stores, drug stores, and tobacco shops. The Companyâs Retail Health Food segment, through its Healthy Edge Retail Group subsidiary, is a specialty retailer of natural/organic groceries and dietary supplements. It has about 13 distribution centers in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, and West Virgini. The Company operates approximately 15 health and natural product retail stores in the Midwest and Florida. These stores carry over 36,000 products.
