Sterling Energy PLC said Tuesday that it has appointed Jeffrey MacDonald as independent nonexecutive chairman, and Gavin Wilson as nonexecutive director, with immediate effect.

The upstream oil-and-gas company said Mr. MacDonald, former founder and CEO of Caledonia Oil & Gas Ltd., was previously managing director with private-equity firm First Reserve. He has also held the position of interim CEO at KrisEnergy Ltd.

The London-listed company said Mr. Wilson was previously investment director at Meridian Capital Ltd., a Hong Kong-based international investment firm.

Shares at 0855 GMT were flat at 16.75 pence.
