Dr. Pier Vincenzo Piazza, co-founder and CEO of Aelis Farma, has received a Distinguished Achievement Award from the European Behavioral Pharmacology Society (EBPS), the biopharmaceutical company announced on Tuesday.

Aelis, which develops treatments for brain diseases, said the Distinguished Achievement Award, which has been presented for more than 20 years, recognizes scientists whose discoveries contribute to the advancement of research in the field of neuroscience and brain diseases.

During the congress, which took place last week in Mannheim (Germany), Pier Vincenzo Piazza was also made an honorary life member of the EBPS.

He had previously presented the discovery of a new generation of drugs and the work of Aelis Farma, paying tribute to the members of his former Inserm research group.

Aelis is currently working on two drug candidates, one to treat cannabis addiction and the other cognitive deficits associated with Down's syndrome
