On Tuesday, January 23rd, the Village Board approved the transition of the responsibilities of the Plan Commission to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) and renamed the ZBA the Planning & Zoning Commission.

Historically, the Village has had both a Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. Due to the nature of their responsibilities, the Zoning Board of Appeals meets regularly, typically eight to ten times per year. The responsibilities of the Plan Commission are more limited and the Commission rarely meets and will often go several years without a meeting. As a result, when a meeting is scheduled it is necessary to provide a training session in advance to review with the Commissioners their roles and responsibilities. It can be disheartening for residents to volunteer to serve on a commission and then not be called upon to attend a meeting for months or even years.

The existing ZBA members will transition to serve on the the Planning & Zoning Commission (PZC). Consistent with the schedule of the former ZBA, the Plan and Zoning Commission will conduct regular monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month (as needed).
