Autoblog, one of the leading automotive digital properties, announced their 2016 Technology of the Year Awards at The North American International Auto Show today. The awards honor both the best individual technology feature in a vehicle as well as the vehicle that showcases the most transformative, integrated technologies in the automotive experience overall. Winners were selected based on testing conducted by Autoblog’s editorial staff and a guest judge from Engadget, a leading technology and culture publication.

“We wanted to take the opportunity to highlight the cutting-edge vehicles and technologies on display today,” said Michael Austin, Editor in Chief of Autoblog. “These winners will certainly transform the way consumers use their vehicles in the future.”

This year, the winner of the Technology of the Year Feature Award was awarded to Apple CarPlay. “Apple’s CarPlay represents the impact technology is having on our connected lives and brings an experience that is easy to use and enhances the lives of consumers who use this product” said Stephen Rouse, Autoblog’s Director of Product and Technology.

The winner of the Technology of the Year Car Award was awarded to the 2016 Tesla Model S P90D. “Tesla’s Model S amazed us with self-driving capabilities that we thought were still years off. Equally impressive was how those autonomous features were delivered to Tesla owners,” said Adam Morath, Autoblog’s Executive Producer. “When the Tesla Model S showed up at Autoblog, it couldn’t drive itself. Three hours and one remote software update later, it could.”

Autoblog is the Official Live Webcast Partner for the 2016 NAIAS and its booth is located on the main concourse of NAIAS. The exclusive livestream will be available on Autoblog.com and on go90. The booth features interactive demos of the latest Autoblog virtual reality content alongside a live set where hosts from the brand’s original video series Translogic and The List will anchor live coverage of the press preview. The video coverage will also include appearances from Autoblog editors and industry executives.

The Autoblog Best of Technology Awards began to celebrate the innovation and noteworthy products in 2013 and this year represents the first time the awards have been presented at NAIAS.
