Prior to establishing Real Estate Capital Partners, Mr. Kinney was president and CEO of Mellon Real Estate Investment Management Corporation (a subsidiary of Mellon Bank), which acted as real estate investment advisor to pension funds, an $80 million finite-life REIT (for which he served as chairman and trustee) and wealthy offshore investors.
During his six-year tenure, the company grew from zero assets to $1.2 billion in assets in a diversified portfolio of equity, debt and hybrid investments.
Previously, at Merrill Lynch & Co. Mr. Kinney acted as group vice president and director of Merrill Lynch, Hubbard, Inc. with responsibility for the Institutional Asset Management Group which included pension fund advisory accounts and a NYSE-listed real estate investment trust.
He also served as president of Caribbean Equities Corporation, a real estate development company, and as vice president of Lomas & Nettleton Financial Corporation.
Mr. Kinney received his BBA with honors in Business Management and a minor in Engineering from the University of Hawaii.
Mr. Kinney retired in 2006.
