Iulia Siedschlag

Dr. Iulia Siedschlag is Associate Research Professor at The Economic & Social Research Institute.
She is also the Head of the Centre for Internationalisation and Competitiveness.
Her key areas of expertise include international and European integration, economic growth of open economies, international trade and investment, technological change, R&D and innovation.
Her current research focuses on the links between international trade, foreign direct investment, innovation and productivity.
From January 2014 until January 2015, she was Senior Scientist in the European Commission’s Directorate General Joint Research Centre in the Knowledge for Growth Unit at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies in Seville, Spain.
In this position, she led the in-house research on the internationalisation of industrial R&D and innovation and advised the European Commission on rethinking European Union’s strategy and policies for economic growth.
Before joining the ESRI, she was Senior Researcher and Scientific Co-ordinator of the Research Programme “European Integration, Structural Change and Adjustment to Shocks” at the Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI) of the University of Bonn (1999-2005).
She has received several research awards and fellowships from private and public organisations including Il Sole 24 Ore, the British Council, University of Warwick and the European Commission.
In 2004, she received the Best Paper Award from the International Business and Economy Conference in San Francisco for her research on the location of manufacturing in Central and Eastern Europe in the context of increased economic integration.
She has been awarded a significant number of research grants from international and national organisations and has successfully led a large number of international research consortia involving research institutes and universities from Europe and the United States.
