From 1989 to 1992, he partnered with Normand Balthazard in establishing BioCapital, Québec's first specialized investment fund.
From 1992 to 1997, he was the founding president of Société Innovatech du Grand Montréal, a $350 million fund dedicated to promoting technical investments in the Greater Montreal region.
Dr. Coupal has been active in Québec's financial community for many years.
He combines scientific expertise with an in-depth knowledge of finance.
As a researcher, he holds a number of patents currently in use.
During his years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Société Innovatech du Grand Montréal, he actively participated in the start-up of many biotechnological companies, most notably BioSignal, Nexia Biotechnologies, Cryocath, Geneka Biotechnologies and Neurochem.
Dr. Coupal is a chemical engineer and a graduate of the École Polytechnique de Montréal.
He also holds a Ph.D.
degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida.
