Picture Anne Cox Chambers
Anne Cox Chambers

Anne Beau Cox Chambers (born December 1, 1919, in Dayton, Ohio) is an American media proprietor, who has a stake of interest in Cox Enterprises, a privately held media empire that includes newspapers, television, radio, cable television, and other businesses.

Early life
Anne Cox was born to Margaretta Blair and James Middleton Cox. She attended Finch College in New York.

She was married to Louis G. Johnson by whom she had two children: Katharine Ann (married 1st Jesse Kornbluth, married 2nd William P. Rayner) and Margaretta (married 1st James F. Granite, 2nd Dr. Alexander Taylor, 3rd Michael Rich). The marriage ended in divorce.

In 1955, she married Robert William Chambers, by whom she had a son, James Cox Chambers (an actor, dancer, and choreographer).

Career
In 1974, upon the death of their brother, James M. Cox (known as 'Jim Jr.'), Chambers and Anthony gained a controlling interest in the family company. That same year Chambers became chairwoman of Atlanta Newspapers. Anthony became chairwoman of Dayton Newspapers, while her husband, Garner Anthony, became the administrative head of Cox Enterprises. In 1988 Anthony's son James Cox Kennedy became chairman and chief executive officer. Chambers remains a close advisor concerning the daily operation of the company.

Active in business and politics, Chambers was appointed ambassador to Belgium by U.S. president Jimmy Carter, a post she held from 1977 to 1981. She was a director of the board of the Coca-Cola Company during the 1980s, and she was the first woman in Atlanta to serve as a bank director (Fulton National Bank). She was also the first woman in Atlanta appointed to the board of the city's chamber of commerce.

Anne Cox Chambers holds the Chair of Atlanta Newspapers and serves as a Director of Cox Enterprises, one of the largest diversified media companies in the United States. It owns one of the nation's largest cable television businesses, Cox Communications, which provides Internet and telephone; publishes newspapers including The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Palm Beach Post; owns and operates broadcast television and radio stations; and owns Manheim Auctions, an automobile auction firm. It also owns stakes in a variety of internet businesses, including Autotrader, the largest retail automotive shopping site in the world. The Ambassador's nephew Jim Kennedy is chairman of Cox Enterprises.

In 2004 Cox Enterprises announced a debt financed $7.9 billion privatization bid for the 38% of the cable television business Cox Communications that it does not already own. Philip Hampton
Philip Hampton

Sir Philip Roy Hampton (born 5 October 1953) is a British businessman, currently chairman of the Royal Bank of Scotland. Originally he joined RBS as the deputy chairman on 19 January 2009 and was promoted to chairman on 3 February the same year. He has previously held the chairman role at J Sainsbury plc, parent company of the Sainsbury's chain of supermarkets, and the role of group finance director of a number of blue chip companies including
Lloyds Banking Group plc, BT Group plc, BG Group plc, British Gas plc and British Steel plc. before becoming the first Chairman of UK Financial Investments Limited in 2008, the post he left to join RBS. He is currently looking to join [plc], also as chairman, leaving RBS. On October 19th 2014, GlaxoSmithKline announced he has 2 months left with RBS and will join GSK from January 2015.

Biography
Hampton gained an MA in English from Lincoln College, Oxford in 1975. He took an MBA from INSEAD from 1980 to 1981, Working on mergers, acquisitions, business restructurings and capital markets; in 1986 he was seconded to Lazard Freres, New York, and also worked extensively with Lazard Freres in Paris.
*BG Group – Group Finance Director from 1997 to 2000
*British Telecom – Group Finance Director from 2000 to 2002
*Lloyds TSB – Group Finance Director from 2002 to 2004

Hampton was appointed Chairman of J Sainsbury plc on 19 July 2004 to replace Sir Peter Davis. His appointment came at a significant time for the retailer; Davis had been forced out as chairman by shareholders due to an extremely generous bonus package despite his dubious performance as chairman and previously as CEO, another shareholder revolt in February 2004 had caused the company to abandon the appointment of Sir Ian Prosser as chairman and Justin King had been appointed Chief Executive in March 2004. Hampton was described by then BBC Business Editor Jeff Randall as "a well-respected City figure" and a "safe pair of hands". Under the King/Hampton leadership Sainsbury's regained some market share and in June 2006 reported its highest sales increase in four years.

RBS Board revolts
In December 2009, the board of RBS warned their major shareholder, the British public, that they would resign unless they were permitted to pay bonuses of £1.5bn to staff in its investment arm. The matter received heavy criticism because it followed a £42bn taxpayer bailout of the banking system.

In January 2012, the board of RBS paid a bonus of £963,000 to Stephen Hester, the chief executive. The Treasury permitted the payment because they feared Mr Hester and much of the board would have quit if the payment had been vetoed by the government as the majority shareholder.

Personal life
A keen sailor, the father of two teenage sons has taken part in the ARC transatlantic yacht race. He currently lives in East Horsley, Surrey.

Philip Green

British billionaire Philip Green is known for his commercial success, his unconventionality and for his mordacity. Seventh richest man in Britain, he shares with his wife Christina a fortune of £3.6 billion, according to the Sunday Times.

He leaved the school at 15 years old, and he began to work as shoes importer travelling in United States, Europe and Far East. When he came back in UK, he borrowed £20 000 and he created his first business importing jeans and selling these to retailers in London.

In 1979, Philip Green bought a large stock of clothing at extremely low prices, and he decided to open his own shop.
In 1988 he became Chairman of Amber Day, a retailing company listed on the Stock exchange.

In early 90s, he bought the chain stores Owen Owen and in 1995 Olympus Sports, which he sold three years later to JJB Sports for £ 550 million.
In 1999, he became popular thanks to hostile takeover’s attempt on Marks and Spencer. Acquisition was blocked by board of directors of the most famous British chain stores, for this reason Green changes the victim, British Home Stores (BHS), which he bought in 2000.

Two years later, it was Arcadia Group’s turn, which owned famous brands Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridge, Outfit, Topshop / Topman and Wallis. Recently also Etam’s chain was acquired by the English businessman.

On 20th October 2005, Green distributed to Arcadia Group’s shareholders dividends of nearly £1.3 billion, and he and his wife (own for 92%) received £1.17 billion, this is the largest dividend ever received by an individual investor in the history of the British company.
