XL Appoints Michael Harth as Country Manager Germany

Munich, Germany - 9 January, 2012 - The insurance segment of XL Group plc ("XL") (NYSE: XL) today announced the appointment of Michael Harth as Country Manager Germany, effective 16 April. In this role he will be responsible for all the Group's insurance business activities in Germany.

Michael Harth joins from Marsh GmbH, where he was a Member of the Management Board with co-responsibility for the pany's Southern Region in Germany.

Prior to this, Mr. Harth held various positions within the Allianz Group, including that of Senior Underwriter Financial Lines at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty AG (AGCS) with a focus on underwriting D&O insurance and providing insurance coverage for Initial Public and Bond Offerings, and Corporate Key Account Manager with responsibility for the entire product range within Allianz Group's Corporate client world.

Michael Harth will be based at XL Group's German head offices in Munich. He holds an MBA degree from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.
