New Vectren program to help customers understand how their homes use energy, how to reduce consumption
Evansville, Ind. - Vectren Energy Delivery (Vectren) recently
launched to 75,000 of its electric customers a direct
communication that analyzes customers' bills and home
characteristics to help determine how much energy their
individual homes use compared to neighboring homes and those
of similar size. In addition, customers also receive free and
low-cost tips to help lower energy usage as part of the
communication.
Accompanying this home energy report outreach is an
interactive web site, which allows customers to track
month-to-month and year-over-year energy usage, implement a
plan to reduce consumption and then chart progress throughout
the year. Customer communication related to this program will
occur via mail about every other month for the next two
years.
"This new energy efficiency program regularly delivers
easy-to-understand home energy reports that are unique to
each customer's household," said Doug Petitt, Vectren's vice
president of marketing and conservation. "Essentially, the
program aims to create a competition in which homeowners set
and ideally exceed energy reduction goals to outpace
neighboring customers."
The program, created by OPower, has been successfully
implemented with more than 60 utilities in the U.S. and has
helped drive 10 million households to save over 500 gigawatt
hours of power since 2007 - or enough energy to power nearly
50,000 homes for a year. Vectren is targeting energy savings
of 24,000 megawatt hours, which is enough to power more than
2,200 homes for a year.
Customers who
are not included in the 75,000 random sample list are
encouraged to use Vectren's online energy audit tool, which
can be found at www.vectren.com/conservation
, or to access
the other energy efficiency resources and tips at this site.
All residential customers are also offered a free on-site
home energy assessment through the new Energizing Indiana
initiative. Visit www.energizingindiana.com
