A new shot-blasting chamber was put into operation at the Taganrog Boiler-Making Works "Krasny Kotelshchik" (TKZ). The implementation of this project is another important stage of an ambitious investment program aimed at the development and modernization of TKZ production.

The new shot-blasting chamber is intended to clean steel assemblies and items from various contaminants. Fractions are used to perform this operation. The abrasive method of metal finishing is considered as one of the most efficient and fastest, since it allows cleaning in just one pass.

Shot-blasting is an important manufacturing operation. As a rule, it is performed prior to applying corrosion protection coating to equipment. The cleaning quality directly affects the top coating service life, so the operator shall have access to the entire surface of the equipment. To work with large items, stationary galleries are located along the walls of the chamber at three-meter elevation, through which an employee performing operations can safely move.

High requirements for ensuring the safety of personnel are mandatory for this type of shot-blasting chambers, involving direct human participation in product processing. In order to avoid injury, employees shall be equipped with clothing and equipment. Inside the TKZ shot-blasting chamber the operator shall wear protective overalls with gloves and a panoramic shot-blasting helmet, which is supplied with compressed air for breathing.

The chamber itself is equipped with an air purification system, including a filter ventilation unit with automatic filter purging. A high level of illumination is provided by LED floodlights with protective screens. Personnel access to the work area is carried out with a service door with a panic push bar. The shot-blasting chamber is controlled via the operator touch panel.
