Japan's nuclear regulator has granted Kansai Electric Power Company permission to extend the operational life of units 3 and 4 at the Ohi nuclear power plant in Fukui Prefecture for another decade. These reactors are now the first to be authorised to operate up to 40 years under revised legislation. The decision allows Ohi units 3 and 4 to continue operating beyond the initial 30-year limit.
