SMBC is excited to launch a new product "Alli for Green" in partnership with Allganize

to help report GHG emissions

TOKYO, January 11 2023 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation ("SMBC", President and CEO: Makoto

Takashima) and Allganize Japan Inc. ("Allganize", President and CEO: Yasuo Sato) have partnered to launch "Alli for Green" (the "Solution"), a solution to support the automatic data collection for Greenhouse Gas ("GHG") emissions calculations. The Solution makes it easier for customers to take action to reduce their impact on the environment by providing an efficient and accurate way to collect large amounts of emission data.

1. Benefits of the Solution

The Solution utilizes Allganize's advanced document understanding technology to extract the information necessary for GHG emissions calculations from invoices and reports that customers receive in paper or PDF format. The technology understands the meaning of characters written in documents and extracts information. As a result, necessary information can be extracted from hundreds or tens of millions of various unstructured documents. Unlike general AI-OCR extraction solutions, users do not need to set the scope of extraction in advance, making it easier to achieve highly accurate extraction.

For companies with multiple locations across the country, manually entering large amounts of data including the energy usage and period into a GHG emissions calculation tool can be a burden on workloads. With Allganize's technology, manual data entry for companies with many locations is no longer required, significantly reducing the labor cost of data conversion. In addition, SMBC and Allganize jointly developed a solution that makes it easy to link extracted data with a GHG emissions calculation tool. This solution automatically converts files according to the file format for data upload designated by the emissions calculation tool, which is expected to save a lot of time and effort required for data file format conversion.

Currently, SMBC is also considering the adoption of the Solution to improve the efficiency of GHG emission calculation for the entire SMBC Group.

2. Background of launching the Solution

SMBC has provided a variety of solutions using digital technology in support of ESG management. With the Solution, SMBC will continue to provide extensive support for the transition to a carbon-free society and work to improve efficiency in GHG emissions calculation while helping customers focus their time on "developing strategies" and "planning reduction."
