(Alliance News) - SolidWorld Group Spa filed a patent on Wednesday, through its subsidiary Bio3DPrinting, for the first 'boosted customization' of a human tissue from a patient's original cells by creating ad hoc heads for replicating individual tissue types.

Electrospider, through these new patented heads, is able to print, from a patient's cells grown in vitro, a complex three-dimensional four-cell tissue that will be used directly in the operating room for the first time in the world.

The company's note reads, "With this revolutionary patent, SolidWorld Group once again confirms its commitment to making available cutting-edge solutions for the creation of human tissues and organs to support medical research. Electrospider allows patients to avoid undergoing several painful transplantation procedures, enabling, moreover, a significant reduction in hospitalization time and thus improving the way hospitals and healthcare facilities work."

Roberto Rizzo, president and CEO of SolidWorld Group, commented, "We developed this head at the specific request of one of our client hospitals, thus paving the way for the first customization of our bioprinter, which stems from the synergy of our group with the E. Piaggio and the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Pisa."

SolidWorld Group's stock closed Tuesday in the red by 0.9 percent at EUR3.27 per share.
