CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lance, Inc.
(Nasdaq: LNCE) announced today that its Lance(R) peanut butter sandwich
crackers are not part of the growing list of recalled peanut butter products
and are not involved in the federal government's ongoing salmonella
investigation. Consumers can continue to enjoy Lance sandwich crackers.
Lance is the #1 selling sandwich cracker brand in the U.S. grocery
channel, and self manufactures 100% of the peanut butter used in its sandwich
crackers.
As part of the Company's stringent food safety program and quality
standards, Lance regularly conducts extensive microbial testing of its peanut
butter to ensure only high-quality, safe food ingredients are used. As a
precaution following last week's news, the Food Safety Division of the North
Carolina Department of Agriculture visited Lance's Charlotte, N.C., bakery on
January 14, 2009. After reviewing the Lance food safety programs and records
specific to peanut butter, Lance was advised that it would not be a subject of
the ongoing investigation.
Lance makes a total of eight sandwich cracker varieties that contain
peanut butter, including: ToastChee, Reduced Fat ToastChee, Toasty, Reduced
Fat Toasty, Captain's Wafers Peanut Butter and Honey, Malt Peanut Butter,
Wheat Crackers with Peanut Butter, and Nekot.
