Serneke and Skara Municipality have entered into a partnering agreement to convert the school in Djäknehuset. The building, an historical monument from 1871, will become the town's new city hall and a workplace for 110 employees of the municipality.

'As part of Serneke's continued establishment efforts in Skaraborg, this project is of the utmost importance for us. In part because Skara Municipality is a highly appreciated client, and also because this is a particularly unique and important conversion project for the town. We are confident that our working methods and perspective will ensure that this is a successful collaboration with Skara Municipality,' says Christer Larsson, Construction Manager, Serneke Construction.

'Djäknehuset provides a lovely historical environment in the center of Skara that we should be proud of. We will retain the important architectural and historical details and spaces in the building as we carry out what needs to be modernized in order to create a well-functioning city hall for the residents, politicians and municipal employees. It also feels exceptionally good to be able to open the former school's premises to the public in only one and a half years from now, so that others can benefit from the new environment,' says Malin Tell, project manager and developer for the municipality.

In accordance with the partnering agreement, the project will be carried out in two phases, the first of which is a project planning phase in which a budget for the conversion project will be finalized. The second phase will comprise production and handover of the building.

Construction is scheduled to commence during spring 2018, and occupancy of the new city hall is scheduled for autumn 2019.
