BOSTON, June 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sovereign Bank today announced Andrew P. Gully has been named Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Corporate Affairs. Gully will oversee the company's media relations, public relations and internal communications activities, as well as the development and execution of integrated communications strategies across the company.

Gully brings nearly 30 years of experience in media, communications and public relations. He joins Sovereign Bank from the Boston branding firm Kelley Habib John (KHJ), where he oversaw communications and public relations campaigns for health and auto insurers, commercial and residential developers, Boston area hospitals, and other clients. He also assisted KHJ in marketing and branding campaigns across its client portfolio.

Previously Gully spent 21 years at the Boston Herald, the last 11 years as Managing Editor overseeing a staff of more than 200 journalists while he directed daily newsroom operations. He began his career as a reporter in 1976 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, for the Eagle Tribune.

A graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Gully holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism. He resides in Andover, Mass., with his family.
