Carbon emissions reduced by 500 tons in 9 months

In the nine months since installing solar panels, Promateris has reduced carbon emissions by 510,086 kg, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 112.45 cars.

Promateris is committed to adopting sustainable practices and contributing to the reduction of its carbon footprint. In August 2023, the company completed the installation of a 1 MWp photovoltaic system on the roof of its factory in Buftea. This project is part of Promateris's efforts to transition to renewable energy and reduce environmental impact.

This system generates approximately 19% of the company's energy needs, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and aiding in the production of packaging with a reduced carbon footprint. The project was realised with support from a grant from the EEA & Norway Grants. The investment is valued at approximately 1 million euros, of which 597,000 euros are non-reimbursable Norwegian funds. The photovoltaic plant was installed by the Romanian company Simtel, and the project was implemented in partnership with the Norwegian company Norsk Energi.

Results 9 months after implementation

Following the implementation of the photovoltaic system, Promateris recorded the following significant results over a 9-month period:

1. By using solar energy for the production of biodegradable and compostable packaging, the company reduced its dependence on fossil fuel-based energy sources.

2. In 9 months since installation, Promateris reduced carbon emissions by 510,086 kg, equivalent to the emissions of 112.45 cars over the course of a year. This is a significant step towards achieving the company's decarbonization goals.

3. The company reduced electricity costs by 20%, having a direct positive impact on its financial efficiency.

Decarbonization goals

Reducing CO2 emissions is one of the most important ambitions of the Promateris industrial group, which aims to use exclusively green electricity sources by 2030. Through this photovoltaic panel installation project, Promateris demonstrates that it is possible to achieve a balance between economic development and environmental protection. Its firm commitment to sustainability and innovation positions it at the forefront of efforts to combat climate change and build a greener and more sustainable future. Furthermore, the industrial group serves as a model of best practices for companies with decarbonization objectives in their activities.
