BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - The "Federal Clinic Atlas", which was launched a month ago, is now available in a new, slimmed-down version. The state portal received a comprehensive update on Thursday, according to the Federal Ministry of Health. The quality of treatment for 20 important procedures can now be queried for comparison, following the original detailed information on 23,000 procedures. Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) had made it clear that this was too confusing for both patients and doctors.

There are now seven large tiles on the portal's homepage covering the areas of heart, lungs, cancer, bones and joints, neurology, gynecology and childbirth, as well as blood vessels. Individual diseases and operations can then be called up, with more to follow. Lauterbach spoke of an interface that is much easier for patients to use. You can see at a glance which clinics in the vicinity have a lot of experience with cancer treatment, endoprostheses or heart operations.

The hospital atlas, which was launched in mid-May, is intended to provide information on the services and treatment quality of around 1700 hospitals. It received its first update after just one week. The states, medical societies and the hospital industry, which operates its own information portal, massively criticized the data displayed. They complained that some of the information was incorrect and outdated. The ministry explained that the atlas is a digital project that is constantly being improved. Lauterbach emphasized that the treatment data used was correct./sam/DP/ngu
