Rentokil Initial opens first Pest Control Innovation Centre in North America

10 Jun 2024

Rentokil Initial plc ("the Company"), a global leader in Pest Control and Hygiene & Wellbeing services, is delighted to announce the official opening of its first pest control innovation centre in North America (NA). Rentokil Terminix, as our NA operations are known, is the largest pest control company in NA.

The Rentokil Terminix Innovation Centre, located in Dallas, Texas, will serve as a hub for research and development, innovation testing, technician training, and driving advancements to enhance public health in North America, the world's largest pest control market, and around the world. It will bring together a collaboration of its own scientists with leading academic institutions, key stakeholders, and industry experts.

The Innovation Centre will provide a state-of-the-art research and development workspace for a team of dedicated PhD-level scientists with specialisms including termites, mosquito management and residential pest control product development.

The Centre houses an insectary for indigenous and global insects, three independent laboratories, temperature controlled environmental chambers for insect analysis, and training rooms.

The Company has an ongoing pipeline of approximately 75 science and innovation projects, incorporating sustainable, non-toxic, and digital solutions.

Upcoming innovation launches and rollouts in North America for 2024 include a new proprietary fly control solution, which in controlled laboratory testing caught 60% more flies in 24 hours than the market-leading external fly trap.

Andy Ransom, Chief Executive of Rentokil Initial plc, said:

"Our new innovation centre is a further example of our global commitment to industry-leading innovation and investment in our people to deliver world-leading customer service. We continue to set new standards for the industry and differentiate ourselves in the market.

"We are hugely proud of the role our colleagues play in creating and delivering new solutions for our customers; whether a scientific breakthrough from our dedicated Innovation team, or a smart insight from our front-line technicians and expert colleagues operating around the world."

The official opening builds on the Company's track record of industry leading innovation and product development. This new facility adds to the existing global innovation centre network. In the UK, The Power Centre opened in 2017 and has developed many new innovations including: Lumnia, the first range of flying insect control units to use LED light sources to attract insects, which are more effective than traditional units (which use fluorescent tubes) and far more sustainable; the development of digital pest control solutions for 24/7 remote monitoring; the use of connected camera technology to facilitate rodent identification and enhanced protection and reporting for customers; and Eradico, a highly versatile, modular rodent control unit, made from 100% recyclable polymer.
