The award recognises Vesa and his teams work in transforming Pöyry's IT support and infrastructure. The jury was impressed by how the role of CIO has been used to direct change within the organisation. In particular, the centralisation of Pöyry IT's operating model, bringing together previously separate IT department and functions. These improvements have resulting in increased IT performance and supports Pöyry's vision of 'The connected company'.

'Whilst the CIO of the year award recognises an individual, the development of ICT is always a team sport. Pöyry has a great global IT team which always pulls together,' says Vesa. 'The successful transformation has been a team effort, helped by feedback from our colleagues across Pöyry. In fact, the CIO's role in today's world is to be the interpreter between technology and business.'

'With Pöyry's vision as 'The connected company' and the ongoing trend towards digitalisation, Vesa Erolainen and Pöyry's IT function has already made a significant contribution,' says the chairman of the jury, Tomi Dahlberg, Professor at Åbo Akademi.

The other members were Kalle Alppi, CIO of the Year 2015, Kati Hagros, CIO of the Year 2014 from Kone, Juha Huovinen, the chairman of the board at ICT Standard Forum, and Mikko Torikka, the editor in chief of Tivi.
