PARADISE - PG&E has begun work to underground power lines along Clark Road in 2022 as part of its continuing effort to underground all distribution power lines in the town.

"PG&E committed to undergrounding all distribution lines in the Town of Paradise and is on track to complete this work in Paradise and portions of lower Magalia in 2025," said Joe Wilson, vice president of PG&E's North Valley and Sierra Region. "We are working closely with the Town and County of Butte to ensure our work is well coordinated with the town's road improvement projects."

PG&E's contractor, C&C Construction, is building the underground conduit to hold insulated electric cables and phone and cable lines, while also modernizing gas lines. The current phase is along Clark Road between Pearson Road and Central Park Drive, with work lasting on that phase into spring. Utilities along part of Elliott Road will also be undergrounded in this phase.

PG&E will then continue north along Clark Road to Wee Dell Road, finishing in about early 2023 along one of the town's main thoroughfares. Work will also occur along numerous side streets, resulting in more than six miles of underground work.

Motorists are advised that there will be lane closures at times, but one-way traffic controls should not be necessary until crews work on the two-lane portions of Clark Road.

In 2019 PG&E announced it would rebuild distribution power lines underground in Paradise as it helps the town recover from the Camp Fire.

The company is also rebuilding more than 75 miles of power lines underground within the North Complex Fire footprint in Butte County. PG&E announced it is undergrounding 10,000 miles of distribution power lines in high-fire threat areas in the coming years.

PG&E has several other undergrounding projects underway in Paradise, including along Skyway and Billie and Pearson roads.

To date, PG&E has built 56 miles of underground lines in Paradise. When complete, about 200 miles of power lines will be undergrounded in Paradise and lower Magalia.
