OSRAM Licht AG (XTRA:OSR) has decided to launch a sale process for its digital lighting components business following a portfolio evaluation, outgoing Chief Executive Officer Olaf Berlien said on February 9, 2021. With the divestment, Osram aims at sharpening its profile as photonics champion and focusing on high-margin businesses. The business to be sold is now part of Osram's Digital division that comprises also Entertainment and Cinema Lighting, Connected Building Applications and Dynamic Lighting. It has a strong market position in Europe and North America and has gone through a successful restructuring, Berlien said. The takeover has been surrounded by fears and rumours about a potential break-up of the lighting equipment maker. The new owner was said to be planning to put the Digital Systems division on the block as soon as the domination agreement enters into force, according to a Reuters report from December 2020.
