2020 Top Pick Series - Elastic, Twilio and VMware

Oppenheimer's senior analyst Ittai Kidron presents Elastic, Twilio and VMware as his top ideas for 2020. The common traits among these three ideas are:

  • favorable risk/reward,
  • strong growth, and
  • meaningful discount valuation to software peers

Elastic offers open source and commercial enterprise search software and support services. Also multiple growth drivers are in place including upselling, new use cases, customer growth, and international expansion that could drive upside.

Twilio is a leading Communications Platform-as-a-Service (CPaaS) vendor. Headwinds are shifting to tailwinds by mid-year as easier comps and US Presidential election are potential positive catalysts.

VMware is the leading software provider of virtualization solutions and is now well positioned to be a leader in enabling hybrid-cloud deployments. At current prices, the stock is not appropriately factoring VMware's improved strategic positioning and evolving business model.
