Attracting and recruiting more women into tech has been an on-going challenge for some time. Whilst progress is being made, there is always more that can be done to help address the lack of diversity in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) industries more broadly.

Vandana Verma, an experienced security solutions architect herself, has been a trailblazer in trying to engage more women into tech. Vandana started Infosec Girls to provide support and mentorship to encourage women to pursue careers in the field of information security. The goal of Infosec Girls is to get more women curious about cybersecurity by urging them to actively participate in events such as security conferences and community meet-ups.

A seasoned security professional with experience ranging from application security to infrastructure to DevSecOps, Vandana is part of the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) and has been keynote speaker and trainer at various public events, ranging from OWASP application security events to Black Hat events and regional events, such as BSides events in India. Vandana is also a member of the OWASP global board of directors and works on diversity initiatives in various communities. She has been the recipient of multiple prestigious awards, including the 2020 Cyber Security Woman of the Year Award, and Instasafe has listed her as one of the top women leaders in the field of technology and cybersecurity in India.

A living/working balance….

In the podcast, Vandana examines the challenges of getting more women to get into tech careers and offers practical advice to managers and organizations such as providing women with more flexibility to manage their home and work lives by enabling them to work remotely when possible. Vandana also talks about OWASP's future goals as well as the importance of mentorship, which she sees as a means to 'uplift others,' help them conquer their fears, and guide them in the right direction.
