Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. as its first power generation business in the United States, will acquire an indirect 11.1% equity stake in 'Birdsboro Power Plant', a natural gas-fired power plant, from Sojitz Group.

　The Birdsboro power plant, which utilizes a combined-cycle generating system equipped with the state-of-art gas steam turbines (488 megawatts for the total output), is currently under construction in Pennsylvania, USA. This power plant is expected to start commercial operation in 2019, and will supply electricity to the northeastern part of the United States through PJM.

　We have been expanding our overseas business in Asia where the electric power demand growth is expected, and through this acquisition, we will further our expansion in North America and Europe as well.
