Kansas City Southern reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2012. For the quarter, the company reported operating income of $173.6 million, income before income taxes of $150.3 million and net income available to common stockholders of $91.8 million or $0.83 per diluted share on revenues of $568.4 million compared to operating income of $150.4 million, income before income taxes of $96.7 million and net income available to common stockholders of $95.6 million or $0.87 per diluted share on revenues of $530.3 million reported a year ago. Compared to 2011, fourth quarter revenue growth was led by a 33% increase in Automotive revenue and 14% increases in Chemical & Petroleum and Intermodal revenue. Industrial & Consumer Products was also strong with revenues growing by 11% in the fourth quarter of 2012. Energy and Agriculture & Minerals revenues were declined by 1% and 11%, respectively.

For the year, the company reported operating income of $715.9 million, income before income taxes of $616.4 million and net income available to common stockholders of $377.1 million or $3.43 per diluted share on revenues of $2,238.6 million compared to operating income of $611.6 million, income before income taxes of $455.0 million and net income available to common stockholders of $328.7 million or $3.00 per diluted share on revenues of $2,098.3 million reported a year ago. Adjusted operating income was $672.9 million compared to $586.0 million reported a year ago. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were $0.92 compared to $0.77 reported a year ago.
