JVC Kenwood Corp. announced that it will release a lens-interchangeable 4k camera module featuring a small size and a light weight under the brand of JVC Kenwood. The module, GW-MD100, is targeted at various photographing systems such as the aerial cameras of cranes and drones, observation cameras for academic use, surveying/monitoring cameras for roads, bridges, etc. The GW-MD100 features a small size and a light weight. Specifically, it measures 88 x 108.5 x 117mm and weighs 800g. It is equipped with a Super 35mm image sensor (pixel count: about 13.5 million) developed by AltaSens Inc, which is affiliated with JVC Kenwood. It realizes video with a narrow depth of field by taking advantage of the sensor size. Moreover, the module incorporates two 4k image processing engines featuring an image processing technology developed by JVC Kenwood and performs the recording and transmission of 4k/60p video. Specifically, H.264 compressed data (format: MOV) are recorded in an SD card while uncompressed 4k baseband signals are being output.
