TORONTO, Jan. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In its latest initiative to help Toronto sports fans reduce their carbon footprint, Just Energy has launched a campaign to offset the carbon emissions associated with fans' TV viewing of Leafs and Raptors regular season games.

For a one-time fee of $2, Just Energy will offset the total carbon emissions related to a fan's televised viewing of Leafs or Raptors games for the current regular season. To participate, simply visit Just Energy's JustGreen(TM) kiosk on the main level of Air Canada Centre on the following game nights:

    Toronto Maple
     Leafs: Toronto Raptors:
    ------------- ----------------

    March 3rd February 27th

    April 1st March 23

To celebrate 'going green', participants will also get the opportunity to have their photo taken with select Leafs and Raptors alumni players.

Since it may be a challenge for fans to significantly reduce their carbon footprint on their own, the purchase of carbon offsets supports projects that help mitigate environmental degradation. Buying a carbon offset is like subtracting from a person's environmental impact that results from their lifestyle choices such as driving or watching TV.

Green Purchases
To date, Just Energy has purchased $70 million in products from green projects across Canada and the United States. Recently, Just Energy reached a significant milestone by having purchased over 2 billion pounds of carbon emissions thanks to its JustGreen program and its proactive "green" customers. These joint efforts are equivalent to taking approximately 190,000 cars off the road or planting approximately 4.5 million trees.

Offset Provider of Air Canada Centre
Just Energy is also the official carbon offset provider of Air Canada Centre, working with the Leafs and Raptors to make their home arena carbon neutral. The partnership and the move towards carbon neutrality is part of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment's (MLSE) ongoing commitment to the environment and sustainability.Canada's premier sports and entertainment venue has committed $5 million to reduce its overall carbon footprint.

"We all need to take personal responsibility for our environmental impact on the planet," says Ken Hartwick, Just Energy's President and CEO. "Our goal is to help consumers become aware of the amount of carbon pollution every one of us creates and develop solutions to reduce and neutralize their personal and household carbon footprint. Customers that subscribe to our green energy programs join a growing community of environmentally responsible energy consumers who are taking action for a cleaner, healthier planet for all."
