- To take the lead in the smart building industry with improved urban life convenience by converging elevator, communication, and robot technologies

- Linked services adopted and in operation in Yongin Severance Hospital, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, and Haeundae Chosun Hotel

Hyundai Elevator announced on July 26 that it had signed a three-party MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with KT and LG Electronics for business cooperation in robot-elevator connection and facilitation of the robot industry. The signing ceremony held at Vision Studio in the Hyundai Group building (Yeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul) was attended by Ik-han Do, head of the Hyundai Elevator Service Business Division, Sang-ho Lee, head of KT's AI Robot Business Unit, and Kyu-chan Noh, executive director of LG Electronics' robot business unit.

The three companies agreed to discuss mobility innovation together, including △Planning and discovering elevator-robot linked services, △Business cooperation to secure competitiveness in robot services, and △Seeking new businesses in this agreement.

Hyundai Elevator disclosed an open API for connecting elevators with platforms like robots and smart devices in 2022, linking with KT's communication and AI (artificial intelligence) voice recognition technology and LG Electronics' robot technology and providing services at various sites, including Yonsei University Medical School Yongin Severance Hospital, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Haeundae Chosun Hotel, Shinhan Bank building, and Hanwha Resort.

"We expect this agreement will expand and revitalize the robot industry by providing various robot services linked to elevators based on close collaboration between the three companies," remarked Sang-ho Lee, head of KT's AI Robot Business Unit. "We will take the initiative in creating a smart urban environment and generating social value," he added.

The agreement is expected to enable three companies to lay the foundation for a new industry through the convergence of elevator-communication-robot technologies while further securing the competitive edge in the construction of Neom City in Saudi Arabia and the capital relocation project in Indonesia based on the 'K-brand' smart building blueprint.

Elevator-robot linkage services can be used in various fields, such as providing delivery service for parcels and food orders in multi-family housing like apartments, delivering amenities and drinks ordered by guests in hotel rooms, and transporting drugs and medicines in medical facilities.

Head of the Hyundai Elevator Service Business Division Ik-han Do said, "It is difficult to imagine future city projects in progress around the world without the elevator-robot linkage connecting the vertical and the horizontal aspects. We will open up new markets, focusing on efficiency and scalability based on the development of interworking technology between elevators and robot."
