As more and more people start cycling to work, it's important to cater to those employees who have made the change, and in the meantime, you might also encourage others to cycle to work too.

  • Benefits of cycling to work:
  • Save money on fuel
  • Improved punctuality as less traffic for cyclists
  • More parking spaces in car park
  • Healthy lifestyle change

Over 40 per cent of people now cycle to work in the UK, a significant improvement on recent years, and because of this increase it's important to get more people involved in the trend. But for people to get involved, they need to know that their equipment is safe if they need to lock it up throughout the working day or night.

Below are some cycling items that you might want to think about purchasing to help protect your employees' equipment.

Storage
If your employees are cycling to work then they will need storage space to keep their bike. They may need a place that shelters their bike from harsh weather but that also protects them from other bikes and thieves. There are a variety of cycle racks available and each may provide you with a different benefit for your workplace. For those that have lots of employees or want to introduce a 'Cycle to work' scheme into the work place then a lockable cycle compound could be the answer. Whereas if you've got few employees who cycle and you've got little space then a steel cycle stand could be more appropriate - it also allows you add more stands as and when necessary.

Protection
In addition to storage, you might want to think about investing in something that will deter thieves from stealing bikes from your employees. Even when bikes are locked up, thieves can still get a hold
of what they want. Why not deter the thieves with a dummy CCTV camera, it fools them into thinking that they are being watched and prevents them from trying to steal anything.

There are plenty of cycle equipment products that you could purchase to ensure that your employees feel comfortable cycling to work, and safe enough to leave their bike locked up there. You might also want to invest in some emergency equipment to keep on stand-by in the workplace, this could include a puncture kit, tools and a spare lock.

Facilities
If you want to encourage your employees to cycle to work, then you might want to think about providing them with some facilities to ensure they feel completely comfortable to do so. For example you employees may want lockers to be able to store their cycling gear safely while they are working. In addition to lockers, employees may also appreciate a suitable place to get changed such as a changing room with equipment to keep their clothing items in good condition and showers to ensure they feel confident working after cycling to work.
