Chrysler Canada today announced its 25th consecutive month of
year-over- year growth with sales of 14,628 for December,
representing a 2% increase over the prior year (14,407). For
the full year, sales were up 13% to 230,992 compared with
204,955 for 2010.
"For the second year in a row, Chrysler Canada was the No. 1
market share gainer in the country," said Reid Bigland,
President and CEO, Chrysler Canada. "We experienced our
highest retail sales results since 2002 and have 2 of the
'Top 5' best-selling vehicles in the country with
our Ram truck and Dodge Grand Caravan. 2011 has been a great
year and we hope to keep the momentum going strong as we
embark upon 2012."
December sales records were set for Ram truck and Dodge
Journey, up 22% and 3% respectively. Jeep brand sales were up
2% over 2010, led by Jeep Wrangler with 778 units sold (+47%
over December 2010) and Jeep Compass with 395 units (+47%).
Chrysler brand sales were up 34%, with Chrysler Town
& Country capturing 240 sales, up 24% over December 2010.
"2011 was a very good year for Chrysler Canada," said Dave
Buckingham, Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Canada. "We
surpassed full year sales records for Ram truck, Jeep
Wrangler and Dodge Journey and our passenger car sales were
up 23%, driven largely by Fiat 500 sales."
For the full year, sales records were shattered for Ram
trucks, with 62,929 units sold, up 18% over 53,386 units for
2010. Strong demand for Jeep brand vehicles continues. The
iconic Jeep Wrangler saw an increase of 41%, with
15,636 sales for the year compared to 11,062 in 2010. The
all-new Grand Cherokee recorded a year-over-year increase of
42%, while sales for the Compass were up 44%. Canada's
best-selling crossover, the Dodge Journey, exceeded full year
2010 sales by 22%, with 29,021 units sold.
Passenger car sales were up 23% for the year. The all-new
Chrysler 200 and significantly refreshed Dodge Avenger have
collectively captured a 10% share
