EQUIFAX CEO MARK BEGOR AND EQUIFAX LATIN AMERICA (LATAM) PRESIDENT CHRIS JONES were on hand for the recent opening celebration of Equifax's newest office in the Dominican Republic.

The new space, which is located in the heart of Santo Domingo, is home to more than 100 Equifax employees. Equifax expanded into the Dominican Republic in 2022 after acquiring Data-Crédito, the largest consumer credit reporting agency in the country. Nearly half of the 10 million people in the Dominican Republic are unbanked or underbanked, so having Equifax is critical to opening new opportunities by bringing new insights to lenders and service providers that can help them better understand their customers.

The office was specifically designed to align both cultures and focus the space, history, and connection with the city of Santo Domingo and the environment. The office was designed by the AJ Estudio firm, which focuses on corporate and commercial projects. Specifically for Equifax, the firm focused on three main principles:

  • Employee Well-being: Focusing on employee well-being, on connecting the American culture with the Dominican culture by supporting the well-being of all people, considering physical, mental, and emotional effects on all future occupants. This happened through a series of interviews and consultations with all employees to review expectations and needs. The result was a design with the main objective of engaging the natural, cultural environment of the place, including the climate, history, and people.

  • Sustainable Materials: Balancing priorities to achieve a durable, safe, and healthy project, with an equitable, sustainable supply chain to minimize possible negative impacts on the planet. To achieve this, the materials were locally produced (wood, cement, etc) by vendors that secure human rights in their own operations, positively impacting their workers and the communities where they operate.

  • Design Multisensory Experiences: Being intentional with the seasonal cycles of daylight, temperature, humidity, scents, and weather by setting up spaces with direct natural light to promote social interactions contributing to a better physical and emotional experience for the users.

The Roble Corporate Center Santo Domingo building is certified with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) v4 BD+C: Core and Shell level Silver. To achieve LEED certification, a project must adhere to prerequisites and credits that address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality. Equifax has pledged to reduce our global environmental impact and has committed to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, a sustainability commitment enabled by our Equifax Cloud™ transformation.
