Receive up to $5,000 in Incentives for Home Energy Improvements

NEW ORLEANS, LA - (Jan. 17, 2012) - Through a partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy, New Orleans' own Energy Smart is now offering the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program to Entergy customers in Orleans Parish.

An energy efficiency program, the Home Performance program aims to help homeowners reduce monthly utility bills by up to 20 percent, improve home comfort, increase efficiency and protect the environment.

As the latest component of Energy Smart, the program takes a whole-house approach to improving energy efficiency. Rather than focusing on just a single measure, like attic insulation, an old air conditioner or leaky ductwork, participating contractors assess how improvements to all of these measures together provide fewer drafts, more consistent room temperature, and ultimately, lower utility bills.

Contractors will discuss with homeowners which upgrades are most cost effective for their specific home and can provide Energy Smart cash incentives of up to $5,000 per home.

Customers who are interested in learning more about the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program can visit the Energy Smart website at EnergySmartNOLA.info or call 1-866-721-0249.

"We're excited to work with a nationally recognized program - ENERGY STAR - that has strong name recognition across the country," said Energy Smart program manager Alex Scott. "In addition, the move to more of a whole-house approach means that each homeowner who participates will have an opportunity for higher energy savings and a more comfortable and healthy home."

Energy Smart is a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR sponsor, and is responsible for ensuring that participating contractors maintain high standards for quality. This new program builds on the success of the popular Residential Solutions program formerly offered by Energy Smart.

"This is our first program in Louisiana and we are excited that Energy Smart is joining our expanding Home Performance with ENERGY STAR family. We are expecting great things from Energy Smart because they have already shown success and commitment to whole house energy efficiency programs," said Ely Jacobsohn, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program manager at the U.S. Department of Energy.

Energy Smart is developed by the New Orleans City Council and administered by Entergy New Orleans. It helps Entergy customers in Orleans Parish save energy and money through energy assessments and cash rebates on insulation, air and duct sealing, AC tune-ups, ENERGY STAR AC, free energy efficient light bulbs and much more.
