ENGIE Brasil Energia has acquired the Umburanas Wind Complex project worth R$ 15 million from Renova Energia S.A. The project is located in the municipality of Umburanas in the north of the state of Bahia and has an installed capacity of 605 MW. It will be ENGIE's largest wind farm to date and its second in the state of Bahia, the first being the Campo Largo Complex currently under construction in the municipal districts of Sento Sé and Umburanas with an installed capacity of 326.7 MW.
The transaction is subject to certain conditions precedent including, but not limited to, the approval of the Brazilian Anti-Trust Authority - CADE. Once concluded, ENGIE will be announcing further details of the operation. 'The wind and solar energy potential in Bahia is very good and for some years now we have been researching areas to harness this potential in the state', explains Eduardo Sattamini, CEO of ENGIE Brasil Energia. For the executive, the synergy involving the operations and installation of the two wind farms - Umburanas and Campo Largo - was one of the principal justifications for the business, optimizing the generation and transmission of energy.
The Campo Largo Complex, already being implemented adjacent to the project acquired from Renova, will have an installed capacity of 326.7 MW generated from 121 wind turbines.
