PAKISTAN and GULF ECONOMIST had an exclusive conversation with Mr S. M. Muneer regarding Pakistan Day celebrations and the current economic scenario of Pakistan in particular and the world in general. Following are the excerpts of the conversation: Pakistan Day celebrations this year have been called off which is a very prudent decision. I stand by the government in this regard. Coronavirus has devastated numerous business opportunities globally and Pakistan is no exception.

The entire world is in the grip of fear. We are blessed that Pakistan is not as affected as some other countries and this is the blessing of almighty Allah. We all must ensure precautions as recommended by the provincial and federal governments. Pakistan is heaven on earth and we would celebrate many Pakistan Day events in the coming years. We love our country and it is always tremendous time to celebrate Pakistan Day, however, the current situation calls for care. Once coronavirus is contained across the world, we would celebrate all occasions and in particular we would celebrate the Pakistan Day with plenty of fanfare next year.

All Pakistanis must reduce travel opportunities in Pakistan and try to stay home due to coronavirus. Those who are traveling abroad these days have to spend 14 days in quarantine facilities in many countries particularly at the airports, which is a monumental hassle and is filled with apprehension. Many governments globally have issued directives for restraints against travel. Pakistan’s trade has increased worldwide during last couple of years and now GSP facility has been extended in all Europe which will help Pakistan to increase the exports. There is a big shortage of raw cotton in Pakistan and the exporters are compelled to import cotton from worldwide losing foreign exchange and our government must make sure to produce more cotton in the coming years.
