DENVER (AP) _ Cimarex Energy Co. (XEC) on Thursday reported second-quarter net income of $113.4 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Denver-based company said it had net income of $1.10 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $2.09 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 21 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.87 per share.

The oil and natural gas company posted revenue of $712.4 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Twenty-one analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $613.7 million.

Cimarex shares have climbed 69% since the beginning of the year. The stock has more than doubled in the last 12 months.
