MONTREAL (AP) _ Canadian National Railway Co. (CNI) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $951.2 million.

On a per-share basis, the Montreal-based company said it had profit of $1.34. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.36 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.21 per share.

The railroad posted revenue of $2.98 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.92 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $3.9 billion, or $5.50 per share. Revenue was reported as $11.55 billion.
