Brookdale Senior Living has announced the 2022 recipients of The Cornerstone Awards. The Cornerstone Awards were created to reflect Brookdale's cornerstones of Passion, Courage, Partnership and Trust, the foundation from which the company's associates deliver their mission of enriching lives.

The third-annual recipients of these four awards are associates from around the country:

  • Katherine Turman, sales manager at Brookdale Fort Smith, Ark., received the "Bill Sheriff Passion Cornerstone Award."

Kate started with Brookdale as a Clare Bridge program coordinator in 2016 and was recently promoted to Sales Manager. Her ED shares, "She embodies what it means to be compassionate, caring, giving and patient with all she encounters. Her passion for our residents is felt by every associate and every family member that has the privilege of meeting her. She believes in what we do and why we do it."

  • Gabrielle Barker, medication technician at Brookdale Danville Piedmont, Va., received the "Jackie Clegg Courage Cornerstone Award."

Gabby started with Brookdale in July 2020, during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, as a CNA. She consistently demonstrates courage to learn new skills. Gabby stepped up during a recent COVID-19 outbreak to make sure residents who tested positive still received the same compassionate care. Additionally, she referred four new associates to her community by sharing how fulfilled and joyful her work makes her.

  • Dawn Potts, business office coordinator at Brookdale Ithaca, N.Y., received the "Cornerstone Award for Partnership."

Dawn began her career at Brookdale in 1999 and remains always willing and ready to help. She has supported her community and stepped up as needed, including working in dining, housekeeping and resident engagement. Last year she even filled in as a COVID screener. If a resident, a resident's loved one, or an associate of the community is in need, Dawn is there for them.

  • Debra Gordon, a nursing manager at Brookdale Meridian, Miss., received the "Jim Seward Trust Cornerstone Award."

Debra has worked hard to serve, gain trust and advance her career at Brookdale. She started as a part-time nurse, shifting to a full-time nurse, then promoted to an HWC and now a Nursing Manager. She answers tough questions for families, helping them understand changing conditions while maintaining schedules, working double shifts and learning new policies and procedures. Debra has become one of the community's Everyday Heroes and continues to heal, unite and improve her community each day.

The Cornerstone Awards were presented via Zoom over a congratulatory meeting with Brookdale executives, including President and CEO Cindy Baier.
