Bolsas Y Mercados Espaneoles Socdad Hldg : BME wins BID’s selection process to carry out a study on SMEs financing in Latin America

The positive experience with MAB and BME's management of stock markets, key factors in winning the contract

BME, through its BME Innova subsidiary, has won a tender process launched by Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), through the Fondo Multilateral de Inversiones (FOMIN), to carry out a study on the "Development of stock exchange instruments for SMEs financing" in Latin America.

The purpose of the study is the search for an alternative private financing solution for SMEs through stock exchanges.

BME Innova will carry out a comparative study of the best practices at international level in the major stock exchanges as well as the Spanish MAB market. Afterwards, existing opportunities for the development of an alternative market in three regions in Latin America and the Caribbean will be analyzed. The results are expected to serve as a pilot for the creation of other markets designed to provide SMEs with new financing sources.

In developing the project BME Innova will rely on the experience of the BME Group's professionals that lead and manage the different stocks markets of the company, especially MAB.

It is the second time that the BID assigns BME a project for the creation of an alternative market for SMEs. In 2009, BME, in collaboration with AFI, was chosen for a similar project in Mexico, which it carried out.

The Mercado Alternativo Bursátil (MAB) was created in 2009 in Spain and it was especially designed for small and medium growth enterprises. It lists 17 companies; its market capitalization exceeds €300 million and has 31 Registered Advisers. Since its creation MAB listed companies have risen more than €86 million.
