- The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic economy stood at 10.1% in December 2021, compared with 12.2% in the previous month.

- The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 8.0%, compared with 9.3% in the previous month.

- Deposits placed by the private sector increased by €4,290 million in December 2021, compared with an increase of €1,833 million in the previous month.

  1. Credit to the domestic economy

    Τhe monthly net flow of total credit was negative by €1,602 million in December 2021, compared with a positive net flow of €1,633 million in the previous month.

    Ι.1 Credit to the general government

    InDecember 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to the general government was negative by €3,416 million, compared with a positive net flow of €1,163 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 33.4% from 43.3% in the previous month.

    Ι.2 Credit to the private sector

    InDecember 2021, the annual growth rate of credit to the private sector increased to 1.3% from 1.1% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of credit was positive by €1,814 million, compared with a positive net flow of €470 million in the previous month.

    Ι.2.1 Credit to corporations

    InDecember 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to corporations was positive by €1,832 million, compared with a positive net flow of €538 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 4.3%, from 4.0% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations (NFCs) increased to 3.8% from 3.2% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by €1,545 million, compared with a positive net flow of €437 million in the previous month. The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries decreased to 10.1% from 13.1% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by €287 million, compared with a positive net flow of €101 million in the previous month.

    Ι.2.2 Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships

    InDecember 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was positive by €88 million, compared with a positive net flow of €7 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 2.0% from 1.5% in the previous month.

    Ι.2.3 Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions

    In December 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative by €107 million, compared with a negative net flow of €76 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -2.4%, from -2.3% in the previous month.

  2. Deposits by the domestic economy with the domestic credit institutions

Τhe monthly net flow of total deposits was positive by €3,382 million, compared with a positive net flow of €1,669 million in November 2021.

ΙΙ.1 Deposits placed by the general government

InDecember 2021, deposits placed by the general government decreased by €908 million, compared with a decrease of €164 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -21.5%, compared with -8.8% in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2 Deposits placed by the private sector

InDecember 2021, deposits placed by the private sector increased by €4,290 million, compared with an increase of €1,833 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 9.9% from 10.4% in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2.1 Corporate deposits

InDecember 2021, corporate deposits increased by €1,592 million, compared with an increase of €2,057 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 20.8% from 20.4% in the previous month. In particular, deposits from NFCs increased by €2,234 million, against an increase of €2,078 million in the previous month. Deposits placed by insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries decreased by €642 million, compared with a decrease of €21 million in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2.2 Deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions

InDecember 2021, deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions increased by €2,698 million, compared with a decrease of €224 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 6.7% from 7.5% in the previous month.
