Bakkavor, the UK's leading supplier of fresh prepared food, has teamed up with Hawksbill Rum, a brand that shares Bakkavor's values in having a positive impact on the environment.

As part of their food waste strategy to halve food waste by 2030, Bakkavor is making the best possible use of its surplus and waste mango and pineapple by redistributing it to Hawksbill for use in their flavoured rum distillation process.

Hawksbill's mission is to help save the hawksbill turtle and they have partnered with the Barbados sea turtle project, donating 10% of its profits from every bottle to support the project's work.

The partnership allows Hawksbill Caribbean Spiced Rum to add to its popular spiced rum range with new Pineapple and Mango flavours made with Bakkavor's discarded food waste. This comes at a time when there is an increased consumer demand for unique flavours across the spirit and liqueur category and a rise in popularity for flavoured rums over the past 12 months.

Caroline Carson, Head of Group ESG Strategy at Bakkavorcommented: "We're delighted to be working with Hawksbill to support their spiced rum range. By using the offcuts of prepared fresh mango and pineapple, Hawksbill are joining us in our efforts to think of surplus food as a valuable resource - not just waste. In doing so, we can raise consumer awareness on this issue through what just happens to be a fantastic product! It's collaborations and innovative thinking like this that will help us meet our target of halving food waste by 2030."
