Audi has unveiled its Q8 concept which features a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The sport utility vehicle is powered by a 3.0-litre TFSI engine producing 245 kW and 500 Nm of torque. It is coupled with a 100 kW electric motor which bumps the total system output up to 330 kW and 700 Nm of torque. The Q8 has a 17.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which comprises 104 prismatic cells, giving an all-electric range of 60 km. Total range with the gasoline (petrol) engine is close to 1,000 km. A full charge with 7.2 kW output takes about 2.5 hours. It also sports a quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Audi will launch the production model based on the concept in 2018.
