Alcatel-Lucent's (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) Cloud DVR solution has won the coveted TV Connect Industry Award for "Best Cloud or CDN Service Delivery". This recognition comes only a few weeks after Alcatel-Lucent received an Emmy® Award for its longstanding commitment to developing network DVR technology.

The TV Connect awards are judged by an independent panel of service providers and industry influencers from around the world. The "Best Cloud or CDN Service Delivery" recognizes an operator, CDN, networking provider, ISP, content provider or solution provider, for creating the best, and most reliable CDN or Cloud Delivery Service.

Cloud DVR enables content to be stored in the network rather than in the hard drive of a traditional DVR or set-top box. This allows several shows to be recorded simultaneously and then accessed anytime, anywhere, and from any device - whether the traditional television in the living room, a smartphone or a tablet. The technology also enables a full array of time-shifted services, such as 'start-over', rewind and catch-up TV. By eliminating the need for a hard drive, Cloud DVR enables service providers to significantly reduce costs associated with managing the hardware, for example on-site repairs and helpdesk calls.

Alcatel-Lucent's Cloud DVR solution serves millions of TV viewers around the world, including Swisscom and Telecable, and is currently being rolled out by some of the world's largest cable and telecoms service providers. Its integration with Velocix CDN enables operators to further reduce their transport costs while improving the end user experience. Another key characteristic is the flexibility of the solution to adapt to legal or content rights constraints.

Paul Larbey, head of Alcatel-Lucent's IP Video business, said: "The pay TV industry as a whole is clearly accelerating its adoption of cloud technologies to improve operations, provide innovative services as well as satisfy users' growing appetite for anytime, anywhere video. We're delighted that our Cloud DVR solution has been recognized by the TV Connect judges as a leading solution for cloud TV services."
